Grade 7 Music

13 January 2012
Today was the first day of music since grade 7. For today all we did was picknthe instrument that we want to learn more for this entire semester, and after that we had to relearn the basic scale just to make sure all of the new student knew as much as the others do since mostpf them don't have any music subject in their old school.

Today we were told that we were going to have a singing assessment in pairs not so long from today. We were given the song "Indonesia Raya" and "Berkibarlah Benderaku", we were only supposed to sing one of them. Since my partner didn't know the other song we were supposed to sing "Indonesia Raya". After picking our partner and our song we practised both of the song as a class. We had to practice a couple of times and then we were dismissed to go to our instrument class. But before that we were given a homework on some chords.

Today after checking our homework altogether it turns out that I was one of the few who got a perfect score. After we were done with noting down our scores we practiced our assessment song again and that is all we did today.

Today seems quite faster than last week, we practiced the assessment song over and over again, and as usual we bring our heavy instruments for nothing.

Today we learned more about notations, specifically chords and scales. Thanks to this lesson I now know how to differentiate major and minor. The sad part was that we got homework...... which is supposed to be a another assessment.

today we learned more about the chords and their inversions. At first remembering these things seems very hard, but at the end I begin to see the pattern and now I am starting to remember most of them. After learning these thing Mr Sadrakh tested some of us to make sure that we were paying attention to him. I was lucky enough to not get called.

Today after we checked the attendance as usual Mr Sadrakh gave us a lecture about always practicing our instrument in home, I find it a bit boring but it seems that it effected some of us. After the Mr Herry told us about how to download and what is "finale". He also told us to bring either a laptop or a usb on friday so that we  can each get a copy of it so we can use it in our next assessment.

Today Mr Sadrakh made sure all of us know the chords well and after that we had to copy quite a lot of things from the white board. It was supposed to help us in how to compose a song, which was our next assessment. Lately every time we go to music class it always have something to do with an assessment -__-"

Today Mr Sadrakh gave  us some tips on how to get a perfect score on our baroque composer booklet assessment and for some of us who still haven't get the copy of the finale software finally got a copy. After explaining a lot we got a booklet to write down our reflection for the baroque composers booklet. We were also told to either make a new blog or use our old blog to type in our reflection for music. If we already made the blog we were told to send the address to Mr Sadrakh cc Mr Herry.

Today after checking the attendance we were supposed to explain to the teachers about the process of making our blog. It seems like a lot of people forgot their old password so they had to make a new one. After that since Mr Harry was absent the flute and saxophone class were told to join our violin class. When ew see them play it seems like saxophone is hard, but acoording to what some people say the violin is supposed to be harder, so we were supposed to be lucky to be able to play a violin.

Today Mr Sadrakh was mad at almost everyone in the class just because 3 people came in late to class. Well maybe he has a reason to be mad because the 3 people were late for more than 10 minutes. According to the 3, they were late because they were printing the music booklet that was supposed to be dued today, evenif it was for his subject, it seems that Mr Sadrakh won't give mercy to them, they were told to stand in front of class for almost a whole session.  Aside from the fact that the 3 were very late, he also got mad because many of us didn't submit the assessments ontime, after that he gave us a very long lecture about always submiting things ontime and that took all of our music time -___-"

Today Mr Sadrakh was absent so Mr Harry had to replace him. With Mr Harry we learned how to put chords in the finale programme. This helps us get a higher mark on our 32 bars composition. we also learnt how to edit the lines and other things like that.

Today I just remembered that I haven't print my finale so I tried to print in the 5th floor, sadly the computer there doesn't have the finale software so I couldn't priunt it. So I think I will get a resouces homework today... we also had to check our attendance, blogspot and our assessments. After that we also got a another booklet, and after the distribution we were dismissed to our next class.

Today Mr Sadrakh checked on the people who haven't make the blogspot and submit the finale. After that we he gave us some tips on what to write in our blogspot. He also adviced us to write atleast 2 paragraphs if we want to get some good scores for opur reflection criterion.

Today after we checked the attendance Mr Sadrakh showed us the chosen songs. It turns out pretty good, I was also happy that myn group got a good background music. He also told us about our 32 bars melody score. I was very happy to hear that I got 9/10. He also had to takea photo of everyone of us for our past assessment.

Today after the attendance we each have to present our pe movements/routine, and that tookalmost all of the time there is. when we came back after snack we got our baroque booklet scores. I was very happy to get 7/8 while other people get lower score.

Today Mr Sadrakh helped us with our evaluation stage b asking us questions. He had to go to 8th floor for a while sin the middle of class so Mr Herry had to replace him for less than 10 minutes. While Mr Herry was replacing Mr Sadrakh he also asked us a couple of questions on how we did our previous assessments.After class we had to ask for Mr Sadrakh's signature for our PE booklet since we were supposed to ask for signatures from our english, music and technology teachers.

Today Mr Sadrakh reminded us hat there would be another assessment next week. This time it would be under the criteria application. According to the name itself in this assessment we have to play our instrument. we have to either choose to play our 32 bars composition or play our group's melody. He also gave us a lecture on personal engagement and how it would effect our grades.

Today Mr Sadrakh asked us one by one if we are done with our music reflection or not. After that we had to watch some of our friends who got low scores do their redo. I was so happy that i'm not one of them. after seeing their last weeks performance, comparing it with the now one, they all improved a lot...... well at least most of them improved. After hearing them perform we were told to fill in a worksheet about our music reflection blog. fortunately I got 9/10!! :D

Today we were given the assessment schedules for this term's music. According to the schedule our first assessment would be on 18 April 2012, which is exactly a week from now, this doesn't give us a lot of time to prepare at all. It also says here that this assessment would be based on the criteria application, which means we would be singing, the worse part is that we would be singing a western song. Though what I don't understand is that the song is Italian :(

Aside from the fact that we were told that our assessment is very close, we were also informed our reflection score. I got 8/8 :D

Today we practiced the Italian song that we were supposed to sing for our assessment. The song didn't turn out to be half as hard as I thought it would be. Th melody was not that hard to remember, the only problem is that I have no idea on what is the meaning of the words that we have to sing. I think none of my classmates also knows.

We were told to sing as a class and as partners.one of us even had to sing solo since Mr Sadrakh thought that his voice was very nice.

Today we were give a reflection booklet so that we won't have to write our reflection draft in our journals again, unless we forget. After we were told to keep our booklets Mr Sadrakh gave us another booklet, this time it is related to our solo singing assessment. After finishing the front page of the booklet the assessment began. When I heard my friends sing I was a bit surprised to see how most of them improved since the last time they had to sing in front of class, and of course this made me a bit worried.

After singing in front I was both relieved but then I begin to worry about another thing, my score. I don't think I did a great job, maybe it because I was so nervous.

Today people who Mr Sadrakh thinks didn't do their best last time were told to redo. There was at least 5 of them, luckily I wasn't among them. When we heard them sing  we realized that actually everyone can get a good score, they just need some threatening words to do their best. they have all improved a lot ever since last Wednesday.

Today we were told to read our baroque booklets to help us prepare for our next assessment which have something to do with writing an essay of the baroque era. Some of us were also cold up front to read our introduction page. Aside from that there is not much left to say about today.

Our assessment was supposed to be on last Friday but since we went to waterbom we had it today. it turns out way different from what i had expected. Well at least it became easier than I expected.

Today we were told to finish some sort of work sheet about Johann Sebastian Bach's biography. We got around 3 pages of information and 2 pages of questions, though I didn't find it that hard to answer. The only problem i had when i was answering these questions was that i didn't have enough lines to  write all of my answer.

Today some of us had to practice for our next assessment which would be around 22 of May. this time the assessment would be based on the the criterion application. unfortunately i was one of the one who needs to perform, sadly i wasn't ready and i played very awfully....

today the people who haven't played last week were told to play up front. some of them played better than most of us who played on Wednesday. we also had a speech from Mr Sadrakh about the importance of personal engagement. He also made sure that all of us already remember the scales by heart.

today the people who haven't practiced infront of the whole class was told to practice today. there was also a few students that mr sadrakh specifically told to practice more. we were also reminded that we will have our assessment on 22-23 May 2012

today mr sadrakgh was replaced by mr Harry. We were told to practice the C Major scale, after that he told one person from each instrument class to practice in front of the whole class, luckily I wasn't one of them. We also didn't skip our instrument class today. Though since mr Sadrakh was absent and there wasn't any other teacher that was available, we had to practice for our assessment alone.

today we had to do our assessments. most of the reflection of my performance i wrote on the worksheet that mr sadrakh distributed. aside from that i'm not fully sure if i would get a good score. we also got our written assessment score, i got 8/8

today we got our booklet back which was collected the last time we had our music class which was on wednesday. we were also told to take better care of our journal booklet and also to fill it in completely. today like usuall our instrument class was skipped again just because we had to see our friends do their redo.

My Music Reflection-term2

22 September 2010

Today we had our actual assessment and this time all of us have to do it, not just the violin and flute class, but everyone was suppose to do it. It is only that the piano students got recorded with a video recorder by Mr. Herry our music department head and was pasted on you tube so the piano didn’t have to do a re-do test like those in the guitar class.

So after all of us already got assessed by our respective teachers we heard our scores. Lucky for me I did quite good out there and got a perfect score. 10/10, and one more thing, since today is assessment day we didn’t have any instrument class. O well at least I got a score that my parents ca be proud of and not getting angry at me.

Today for theory class Mr. Harry our teacher decided to teach us about triad also known as chord. At first it was quite hard to memorize the pattern of it but after a while we got the hang of it. Then we have to copy something on the board that we also have to do. Then when I did it I think did quite good. Today we also have music instrument class.

Today we learnt about some major scales, like A and D-which is also known as 2# and 3#. We also learnt their chords and triads. Today was quite fun, maybe because I feel good that I can understand things that other friends didn’t understand. So today’s music reflection is done. Next time in Friday, as I was told, we would have a test on what we have learnt today. I just wish I would have a good mark that my parents can be proud of.

So today we did our written test on chords, triads and major scales. There are only around 8 questions, but each are pretty long, but we got 30 minutes to finish it. At first look the questions seem hard, but when I almost finish written assessment/test it all seem to look a lot easier.

After Mr. Harry (our theory teacher) told us to exchange our papers and check our friends work I was almost very nervous. So when we return our friend’s test paper without looking at our own test paper. I started to be nervous. But after the teacher told us our score, I was very happy because I got a perfect score. So today I am very excited to tell my parents about my score.

Next week Monday we are going to learn some Asian song from India, Korea, China and Japan.

Today we learnt the 4 Asian songs. It turned out that all of the songs were pretty simple and easy to pronounce, the only problem was the Korean song which is a sort of a tongue twister for me. But then suddenly while we were practicing there was an earthquake drill, so me and my friends had to ride the stairs from 4^th-1^st floor because our music class is at the 4^th floor. So there we were standing outside the building, waiting until the principal allows us to re-enter the building. And by the time the principal told the whole grade six to re-enter the building we only had a few minutes left for music. So we had to hurry and we had to be dismissed around 5 minutes after writing the reflection. And to day we were very exhausted just because of the earthquake drill.

Today is our assessment for singing. Our teacher let us pick a partner and a song, so I chose a partner, and then we pick the Japanese song which pretty simple but a little too long for me. So after all of my other classmates did their assessment our teacher read out our scores. I was very totally nervous ‘cause I never get a good mark in singing. Then when I heard that my score is 8 /10 I was feeling very lucky just because I pass just by one. While and some of my other friends failed, but I don’t mean all I just mean a few.

Today we had a redo for the singing assessment for those who didn’t pass last time. Since I fortunately pass the assessment/test, I didn’t have to redo. So after all of “the students that didn’t pass” did their redo, we discussed about our next assessment which would be presenting our ppt. slideshow presentation about some Asian countries like India, China, Korea and Japan. And my group got Korean. The lucky thing was that there was a Korean student in our group.

Next music class would be our due date for the ppt presentation.

Today we did our slideshow presentation. But we just remember that we have no audio. So when we did our presentation everything seems smooth for a while, but after we present we were suppose to show a song from Korea to be specific a traditional song. But since we didn’t have any audio our Korean song was forced to sing, poor her. But anyway I think we got a even higher score thanks to our Korean friend singing, but I don’t know because the teacher didn’t tell us our score. Next time I think were going to learn something about melodies.

Today after doing the attendance, Mr. Harry asked all of us to redo our slideshow presentation about Asian music AGAIN, well I know that it is for us to get a better score but all of us just didn’t want to. So after talking about it with my group mates we finally decided to take the redo. So after we all of did our redo the teacher told us our score, well for me I didn’t get a lot of difference but at least I improved.

Next time we will learn about pentatonic notation on: Javanese and Chinese.

Today as soon as we arrived in class, mr Harry started to do his class without doing the attendance. I guess for the first time he forgot to do it. So when he wanted to start the second topic then he remembered. So after the attendance he started to teach us more on the topic Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Korean. And after wards we learn about pentatonic notation. Next time on wed we are going to have another written test on Asian music.

Today after checking the attendance, our sub-teacher(the one who also checked our attendance) told us why he was subtituting our theory teacher. According to what he said our theory teacher was sick and couldn't come here to teach us.

 So after all that was organized/done we had to do our written assessment/test, which is about the 4 asian music: Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Indian. We were only given 30 minutes to answer the whole thing which is around 4 question but we have to answer using all of the lines provided. So first since I forgot to study and second the time is very limited so I already had the feeling that I might get a low score. luycky it was an open book test so at least I might know the answer to most of the question.

 So I atleast I learnt something today, always study even if there won't be a test. next time I hope i would remember when tests would be held so I can get an ewven better score.

Today after doing the attendance with our theory teacher and not our sub, the teacher announced the score for last time's written test. so after hearing my score i was quite famished that i passed, even if I passed by only little.

 So after hearing our marks we were asked to the 16 bar composing using either Chinese, Japanese and Javanese pentatonic. The teacher say that it will be checked by next week, so I hope I would get a great mark.

Today after doing the attendance, we relearn the 3 pentatonic; Japanese, Javanese and Chinese. Afterwards our teacher asked us to make a 16 bar composition on one of those pentatonic. But first he gave us an example using the Japanese pentatonic. Next time I think we are going to check our compositions.

Today we didn’t do much because it is our composition assessment day. In the assessment paper all we need to do is copy the composition that we made in our music book and then add lyrics and then do the reflection. But as always I didn’t have enough time to make my lyrics nice, so I sort of do it hurriedly.

Next time we meet in the next class I think we would practice playing our composition in front of our friends.

Today after doing the attendance, practiced laying our 16 bar composition. So our teacher started calling names randomly and I was almost called up twice to practice. Luckily I got a reason and I only performed once, although I think a bit badly. So most of us gets to practice today, but some were lucky not to be picked to practice, why lucky, because most of us just want more time to practice alone and not in front of the others.

So today’s instrument class was replaced by practicing for our next assessment. Next week Wednesday I think would be the same as today.

Today Mr. Harry is absent again along with some other teacher like Mr. John and Ms. Marie, although I am not quite sure if they all are absent because of one cause or each different reasons. Anyway so since Mr. Harry was absent so Mr. Sadrakh substitute for him. And other teachers substitute the other 2 teachers.

So after Mr. Sadrakh told us why he was substituting we started to practice again for the upcoming assessment, he found out that some of us didn’t practice and so he started talking about how important it is to practice in home. So after hearing that long talk it is already time to go to instrument class…

Next time maybe I should do more practices in home just in case so I won’t get in trouble with Mr. Sadrakh.

My Music Reflections-term 1

Today is my first music session, we learn about notations and an Indonesian song that we were suppose to sing again for our assesment. For the singing practice we were allowed to sing in groups but later when we are doing our assesment we would have to sing solo. Even if we all already sing in groups some of us seem to be nervous, which includes me ofcourse. Aside from that I am wondering why don't we  have instrument session today???

Maybe next time we would have one, next time my teacher says that we would have to practice again, but this time with fewer members in one group and then we would have to sing solo. Now iI am surely getting even nervous :(

This is a Wednesday, the first music session of the week. Today we have to practice singing solo, how annoying. I was on my chair crossing my finger hoping that my name wouldn't be called when suddenly I heard my name being called. I was so nervous and all that feelings when you have to go on stage in front of so many people ALONE. the reason why is probably because my name was the first called and I have to sing solo the first.

Well after all that was over I just directly sit back on my chair, hoping there would not be any one of my classmate mocking me or teasing while I am not looking. afterwards I could hear my other friends sing to, anyway well since that is over we were finally allowed to go to our next class. Next class which is on Friday I desperately hope I won't get picked again.

Today we continued to practice singing again. Some of us are lucky enough to not get picked to practice again just because we had to study more notation. To bad I wasn't lucky enough. I had to practice again. at least it is for my own good. This practice was our last practice because next week Wednesday it would be our assement day. Boy I hope I would get a good score.

So today is the assesment day. The day I was not hoping for. So we did our assesment and then get our score as soon as the last person finish his/her performance. To my surprise I passed, but got a low score. And I won't have to repeat again next meeting. YAY!!!!

And as I told you, some of the students in my class have to repeat the assesment again on friday since today is a wednesday. I hope next we would have instrument class.

Today we see some of our friends retrying for the assesment. Since there is quite a lot of them we finished a little late. And because of that we  were allowed to have our instrument class even if it is only for a few minutes. Finally we had it, after a few weeks of begging we finally can go and have instrument class.Next meeting I think we would be able to see our new violin teacher.

Today we learned about more notation symbols. Like the different rest signs and whole notes. Aside from just that a teacher just came in and asks my theory teacher if is it ok to make us sing one of the stanzas in the song “Tanah Air Beta”. And of course my teacher agreed and made us do as he told, while the teacher who just came in recorded us. Which we had no idea what it was for.

Today was not a bad day but yet a good day either.

Today our teacher told us to make a group for our next assessment which is making a slide presentation on one of the following places; Bali, Sunda, Sumatra barat (Batak), Kalimantan, and Jawa Solo/Jogja. My group was assigned to do on Sunda’s music and cultures.

I am happy that I am in the same group as one of my good friend. Next meeting my group mates and I are planning to be done because the due date is around next week.

Today we learned about; how to make a blog and write a complete reflection. We also practiced our power point presentation. Though when the teacher was explaining I got a little bored and all that, at least I can understand on how to do the things that the teacher was explaining.

Next meeting me and m friends are thinking to start o doing our power point presentation, since, we forgot to do it last time.

Today we sort of started our session with hearing our 2 teachers talk about our blog which I officially haven’t done. Anyway aside from that we did our final practice, but still I and my friends are not done. Today I felt quite tired probably because before this was our P.E session. Next week Wednesday is our assessment day I sure hope that by that day we are done.

Today we presented our slideshow presentation as our assesment. Since my group was the first so we were not the best yet not the worst. I think we did pretty well as being the first to presentour work, the only bad thing about our presentation according to me is only our teamwork. We keep on shoving each other because well we didn't practice and all that.

Next meeting the theory teacher said that we would be learning 3 new songs for our next assesment. Luckily this time he said that we were allowed to sing in groups. well aside from that now I know that whenever there is assesment we won't have any instrument class.

Today after we did our assesment as usual, we did our singing warming ups first. which consists of 3 different steps. Well since it is quite hard to describe them.... anyway, afterwards we got a sheet of paper with the 3 songs typed on it. There was a song from Maluku, Papua and Jawa. today we just learnt the first song since we didin't have enough time because we had to have our instrument class.

Next meeting, I think we would belearning the next song.

After we did our quick attendance as usual, we started to do another practice for our 3rd assessment which is playing an Indonesian ethnic song with each of our own instrument. Since some of us were just not yet ready like all off the students from violin and flute class, we were allowed to practice in home.

So while the others do their assessment we just watch. After they were done we all were allowed to proceed to our instrument class. This day I just feel lucky enough that I don’t have to do the assessment.

Today some of us were allowed to do their assessment now. but since all of the pupils from the violin and flute class were not ready yet, we were allowed to do the assesment during the first week of term 2. And one more thing, since this is an assessment we are not allowed to do it in groups. how sad for me. :(
 
Today I also got a new song for the assessment which is called "Suwe Ora Jamu". After all that we were allowed to go to instrument class. This week has been ong and tiring.
